Chuckles
I am an Electronics Engineer living in Vancouver BC Canada, I have my dream position job designing electronic circuitry and printed circuit boards for the professional audio industry. I also have a strong interest in economics and LGBT issues.
Are you as surprised that Yahoo Answers lasted this long. Logging now after being on Quora for years, I see my 300,000+ points still here. ?
It seems the side has descended into a pit of trolls by the early 2010s. Though Quora is rapidly going that ways as well.
It seemed that Cars and Transportation was the last half way respectable section and that was still had too many of questions that google maps cold have answered better.
Politics was a total mess with anyone not totally alt right getting flames. I can imagine what he has been like in these Potus45 years and after.
I am going to take a browse around then I will be saying goodbye to what was my biggest waste of time in the 2000s. That I got over 300,000 points and often got listed among the top 10 people providing answers and getting best answer so often says something about how much time I dedicated providing polite and as accurate as possible answers I could.
Bye

I have the FIT on my short list for a retirement vehicle when my 2004 Focus dies on me. Some people say the transmission is noisy and I wonder what other people think about it. I really like the amount of safety tech on the 2018 model but I do not want a car any noisier than my 2.3L Focus.

I live in an apartment and I can access a 120V outlet for charging. Level 1 charging is adequate for my needs. However I would have to report the kilowatt-hours used each month to the building management to pay them for it.
Therefore I am wondering if the Bolt has a function on the display I could use to keep track of the number of kilowatt-hours each month without having to buy an external metering device.

I am looking at a new car where the base model has 65 profile tires but the model I want has 55 profile tires. My current car has 60 profile. My understanding is that while handling improves with lower profile tires, comfort and durability go way down. I see too many cars by the side of the road with low profile tires shredded by potholes I have hit more than once with my 60 profile tires with no ill effects. My present car handles just file with 60 profile. My first car had 80 profile and handled well enough.
So please no people telling me I need the lower profile for handling. Stick to the point of comfort and durability.
At at my age I want a comfortable ride and I would like to be able to get 40,000 miles out of a set of tires.
Or am I worrying about this too much?
What are your thoughts.

I have a question about the US/Canada tax treaty from someone that knows something about US/Canadian taxes.
I tried to read the treaty and as a mere engineer that designs complex electronic systems and I cannot figure it out.
I am a Canadian citizen, residing in Canada but I lived in the USA (legally) from 2001 to 2010 and have US income from investments and now get a partial social security benefit. As well I have an IRA and will have to take minimum required distributions starting in 2022. I need to know the correct way to deal with my US income for tax purposes.
I have no intention to avoid taxes. Taxes are the price of civilization. I am also familiar with the official aank Of Canada exchange rate for each year for tax purposes.
Here are the three ways I have deduced.
1. File a US 1040NR to the US government and pay US taxes on US income and say nothing to the Canadian tax people.
2. Declare the entire US income on my Canadian tax return and file nothing in the USA as I am resident in Canada.
3. File a US 1040NR and pay the US taxes AND declare the income on my Canadian tax return and pay Canadian taxes on it, deducting the taxes paid to the US government as a tax credit.
I have seen things it the treaty that imply all of these in one place or another but nothing that exactly describes my situation.
I can be emailed through Yahoo Answers if more information is needed.
Any help would be appreciated.

My daughter got a 2005 Cavalier in 2008 with 58,000 miles on it. The car has been incredibly reliable needing only a fuel pump and a water pump in 7 years. Besides routine maintenance of course. With the 2.2L engine it was quite peppy and met her needs on the short on-ramps thay have on the old freeways in the north-east.
Now she graduated with her advanced degree and started a new job that pays quite well. Since the Cavalier had almost 150,000 on the clock, and she was incredibly pleased with her experience with the Cavalier she first looked at a Cruze. She drove one with a 1.8 and found it not as snappy but good enough. However, at the trim level she wanted, it only came with a 1.4L Turbo.
Trying one she found it had no get up and go until it hit about 4000 RPM. But right off the line it was just a slug. Also consider she is originally from BC where we have a highway that just kills turbochargers. Where almost no one who knows anything about cars will buy one with a turbo.
We feel there is no replacement for displacement for get up and go off the line. SO because she could not get the top line model with a normally aspirated engine, she got a 2.0L Mazda 3 GT. No turbo. Plenty oz Zoom-zoom.
The Focus was rejected as the current Focus is too ugly and the Dart was rejected as she says she sees a dead one by the side of the road almost every day.
Sorry US car makers but she did check the US brands first.

In the last couple months I have seen a number of changes to Yahoo Answers. Most are improvements but not all of them.
My biggest issue is that I can no longer reply when someone asks me a question. I am a top contributor and sometimes someone sends me a message to get additional information and I always rely to these. Except one guy is is obviously asking me to do him homework.
For example, I got a question from a user named Martin. When I click on the link Reply to This Message what I see is they users "My Activity" page and for the life of me I cannot find anything on that page to send the user a reply to their message.
It used to be a form would come up with a window for me to type in a reply but now that is no longer there.
Does anyone know if this is a screwup at Yahoo's end or am I missing something?
I do not think I am blocked as I have always been courteous to all I send replies too. I doubt I would have over 241,000 points otherwise.
If anyone from Yahoo reads this, please send me a message.

I got approved for my green card and issued a priority date of May 5th 2008. This will come up this year. However, in 2010 I had to return to Canada to care for my elderly mother and I may not be able to get back to my job at my US employer right then.
How long can I delay filing the paperwork after my priority date and not lose the green card?
In case anyone cares I worked in LA from 2001 to 2010 on TN and H-1B visas as an electronics engineer as most all the US citizen engineers that are willing to put up with the high housing prices are working in the defense industries. I already have enough years of contributions to get Social Security.

A bit of a ramble here. Sorry about it. I have broken it up into sections to make it easier to read.
I am looking for a small SUV. I am getting older and I need a higher seat for easy entry and exit. I am only looking at vehicles built in the USA or Canada. This would likely be my retirement vehicle.
I am not decided between new and a 1 or 2 year old lease return vehicle.
I have eliminated the Escape as I have a 2004 Focus and while I am OK with it the mileage has been disappointing (22 MPG average) and the reliability has been poorer than I would like. In 112,000 miles it is on its 5th alternator. There have been a good many other things as well.
I am very happy with the mileage my daughter gets with her 2005 Chevy Cavalier and it has been quite reliable.
This led me to the Equinox. A 4 cylinder with 2WD. However, online I see all kinds of people who have had engine issues, especially the 2010 and 2011. Serious issues, The Equinox shows a medium frequency of repairs compared to the CRV which has a far lower repair rate..
My son in law has a Canadian built 2010 Civic and in his 100,000 mile son it, it has been very reliable. I feel bit like a traitor looking at a Japanese brand vehicle even though it is built in Canada with 60% US/Canadian content. Compared to the Equinox with 65%. Though I did have a Miata for a couple years and it only had one issue in the 3 years I owned it.
Anyone out there have any opinions other than blind loyalty to a brand??

I have a self directed IRA where I have two rental properties. I have been letting the money build up from the rents my manager collects and I am thinking of investing that money within the IRA. With carefully selected REITs.
I fully control the funds in the IRA myself.
However, I am unsure of exactly how I would purchase the shares so they the money and the shares stayed inside of the IRA. Would I have to set up a brokerage account in the name of the IRA or can I use a brokerage account under my name.
I am 63 and can withdraw without penalty but it will be several years before I will actually need any of the funds.
Any advice so that I can stay within both the letter and the spirit of the law would be appreciated. I just want to do better than the 0.Nothing% that the bank pays in interest. The 5% the more reliable REITs pay looks pretty good.
2 คำตอบPersonal Finance8 ปี ที่ผ่านมาHow long do you have to move to USA once you get your green card?
Been waiting since 2008 since my I-140 was been approved. My lawyer will be filing for adjustment of status next year some time. I assume that once the green card is actually issued you have a certain length of time before you actually have to establish US residence. I heard it was six months. Can someone please confirm this for me.
I would also want confirmation whether once you get your green card, you are considered just another American worker. In case when I move there after 3-4 months and if the job for which my PERM was granted and the I-140 issued has evaporated. That I would be free to take one of the several other opportunities I have been offered.
Everything is legal and on the up and up. I was in the US on an H-1B but had to return to Canada in 2010 to care for an elderly parent. Everything will be done through a reputable law firm. But I am hoping to get some clarity here to avoid running up the legal bill.
3 คำตอบImmigration8 ปี ที่ผ่านมาWhen you get your green card how long does your employer have to keep youÉ?
I have an approved I-140 as an EB-3 for an Electronics Engineering position. My priority date will come up some time next year and my lawyer will be filing my adjustment of status later this year.
I have heard cases of employers getting someone a green card for a great job with good pay. Then after a short time, laying them off and offering them a lesser position for less money.
Therefore, I would like to know if there is any specific length of time required by law they have to keep a person in the exact originally offered position.
