OK, I'm having a nightmare. i tried to turn off the water in a downstairs flat to replace the sink but the stopcock didn't seem to isolate the water. i looked outside and the only valve turns off 4 houses and i don't have the specialist tools to access it because its 3 feet deep and has a strange fitting on it. looking at the plumbing its a simple setup. mains comes in and T's off to sink and washing machine then bath then bathroom sink then goes into the immersion heater. There is only one input (cold) one output (hot) the hot follows backwards and T's off for bathroom sink, bath then kitchen sink and ends there at the washing machine. i have traced the plumbing through the house and there is no other supply and she doesn't have a water tank. I got a plumber in to replace the stopcock but he says it works fine..... i thought id made a mistake and checked the plumbing i can isolate the hot at the heater with a gate valve no problem its just the cold. the stopcock turns 2 or 3 full turns but doesn't shut off the water. i realize this is strange because I'm aware of how a stopcock works. Is this plumber incompetent or am i missing something? also has anyone ever come across a stopcock with the same issue because i called another plumber for a second opinion and he says hes never heard of a stopcock turning off but not stopping the flow of water.

P.s i've tried a pair or grips on it and got another half turn but definitely feels like its shutting off.

Went out last night and got punched in the side of the head.... i have lump 24 hours later and cant eat on that side due to tenderness. Got up this morning with blurred vision and it developed into bad headache that paracetamol wouldn't shift it. drove my car and had to be sick out the door and then again when i got home. i feel ok now but will it be the same tommorow?

could this be a bug and its a coinsidence?
