  • Wireless network card question on a Comcast network?

So, I need to buy a wireless network adapter for my PC so I can access the internet at the place I will be moving to in a few days. I have stayed at the place before and found that my old Ipod Touch connected with no problem. The problem is now I will be bringing my PC and I do not know which network card to get.

If I buy a wireless network N card will it still work if the network has a G router? If I buy a wireless network G card will it work on a N router?

I am finding some wireless N cards at good prices but am not sure what the router configuration is at the place I will be staying at.

  • Logic purists?

I am interested in understanding how you apply logic to intangible concepts like philosophy. For example can you use logic to figure out what is the right morality? Or even prove the existence of morality? Do you believe that all who use logic will come to the same logical conclusion? If not are those who disagree with your conclusion illogical or is it your logic that is fouled? How do you tell? Who gets to decide? Is logic an absolute when applied to all things or subjective like opinions?

The reason I ask is I see logic as indispensable in science and academia in general but fail to see how one can have an infallible logic when analyzing intangible concepts of the mind such as philosophy, theology, ideology, sociology... etc.

Lots of questions I know, but all answers will be appreciated.

  • If America was founded upon God then how do you explain...?

... racism, slavery, segregation, the treatment of the Native Americans, not allowing women the right to vote until the early 20th century... etc.?

Because from my view those who believe that America was founded upon God also have to support all the injustices listed above. We are either a Christian theocracy where Christians are guilty of horrific abuses or we are a secular country where man inflicted horrific suffering on those who were non white or women.

Which it is Christians? You still want to claim America was founded upon God?

  • If morality is universal then why is it that so many Christians disagree on what is/not moral?

If you are required to follow the morality that God has laid down then who is the authority in providing the appropriate interpretation of the word of God? If the word of God is contained in the Bible then how can one find the right interpretation in a book that has been/is interpreted in seemingly innumerable ways?

  • Religion, benevolent dictatorship or a democracy?

In your view is religion a benevolent dictatorship where God commands and the faithful follow, or is it a democracy where you get to pick and choose what dogma to follow or ignore/reject.

  • Forgiveness is for me and not the person that I am angry at?

I was betrayed three years ago and to this day I am still angry. I try not to think about it much lest it consume me but I think I am loosing the battle.

I was taught as a young man that forgiveness is about repairing the harm that we do to others. Its about healing their pain by showing that I understand that I had hurt them, that I was truly sorry, and that I will make every effort to no reoffend.

Back when I was taught this I was a troubled young man but found when I made amends as described above, that a great weight was lifted off of me and all the anger I had as a kid/young man was undone.... healed... gone!

For 20 years I went without anger but now I find myself again consumed by anger because of a deep betrayal of two of those closest to me. I have made amends for my part but they do not seem to care or even understand the harm that they caused me. Because of this I cannot let go of the anger.

Online I have been told that forgiveness is not for others, its for me... which is a foreign concept for me. Forgiving others for my benefit just seems selfish and self serving. But I am nearing a place of complete defeat and now question the validity of my past teachings on forgiveness.

So my question is how does forgiving so I can feel better help resolve the problem? It really seems like ducking my head in the sand. Can someone please help me understand the concept that forgiveness is for me and not the person that I am angry at?

  • If morality comes from God...?

... then is it a moral imperative or is it something you can ignore because "God forgives" and "we are all just sinners"?

If its a moral imperative then why is it the standard reply of a Christian to say that "God forgives" and "we are all just sinners" when caught doing something immoral?

For example finding porn on their PC.

  • "Thou shalt not kill", self-evident vs. it is so because it says so in the Bible?

The Bible says "Thou shalt not kill". Now to me this is a self-evident concept that I have understood since an early age. Once I understood the concept of death the concept of its immoral to commit murder just seemed a logical followup.

So why is it some need to read in the Bible that murder is wrong for it to be believed that it is wrong?

How about "Thou shalt not commit adultery"... or... "Thou shalt not steal"... or... "Thou shalt not bear false whiteness against thy neighbor"... or... "Thou shalt not covet"? Are these things wrong because it says so in the Bible? In the absence of the Bible would they still be wrong? IMO they are just self-evident truths that any who have the ability to think in a rational and logical way will easily come to understand on their own.

My morality was learned mainly through experience and observation. For example; As a small child the first time a kid stole a cookie off my plate was an object lesson in the immorality of stealing. And as a small child when I saw a kid take a toy from another kid it left me filled with a sense that I had just witnessed a wrong being committed.

IMO as morality comes from the mind of mankind, it is as old as mankind and predates all the modern religions.

The reason that I say morality is "self-evident" is because morality is an intangible idea that we cannot prove by any scientific method. Morality resides in the heady world of philosophy, theology, ideology, sociology... etc.

  • How does one go about proving the existence of a theological intangible?

God exists because it says so in a dusty old tome? By that logic I could say Elves exists because it says so in The Lord of the Rings.

So how does one go about proving the existence of a theological intangible?
