First of all, Buddhism is a true democaratic system because it teaches the truth about life cycles and the ways to conduct one's life in harmony with one's environment, but it does not requires, coerces, or punishes anyone for doubting the Buddhist's teaching. You are free to believe what satisfy your mind and to questions everything that are not sound and reasonable to your entellectual sense.
Secondly, the Buddha encuraged us to be sceptical of his teaching. The Buddha suggested to his fallowers, ten types of information we should question:
1. Don't believe your ears.
2. Don't believe repeated story.
3. Don't believe rumors.
4. Don't believe because it is written.
5. Don't believe by reading between the lines.
6. Don't believe by estimation.
7. Don't believe because of circumstantiall evidence.
8. Don't believe because it agrees with your idea.
9. Don't believe because it came from credible sources or persons.
10.Don't believe because it came from the religious teachers or degreed teachers.
One should believe only after questions are throughly answered with reasons and evidences to prove the statements to be true and satisfaction to your doubtful mind.
We should keep in mind that just because something has not been scientifically proven, it doesn't means that it won't ever be. 2500 years ago, when the Buddha roamed the earth, we didn' t know how life begins or how the world existes but the Buddha knew. Now, there are scientific proof of what the Buddha told his followers back then. Someday, we might find proof of life after earthly life, who knows?
YOU'LL BE A BUDDHIST UNTIL YOU DECIDED NOT TO BE ONE.

I think that the Buddha never say about after life. He just says about Kama. Read below link you will understand.
