I Have A Question For Those So Vehemently Opposed To the Pope's Visit To The UK?
Would you people be as vehement if it were the Dalai Lama?
@British Rule Britania: As a Catholic, I have no idea what you are talking about: The Catholic Church has NEVER called children evil!!!!
All the rest of you: a)I was referring to if the Dalai Lama's visit was a state one, & thus, be paid by the British taxpayer.
b)clergy from all religions--not just Catholicism or Christianity--have been accused rape etc, including Buddhist clergy.

Good question! Here in the States (I don't know if it's different in Canada since you're a Commonwealth) we don't object to paying for the Queen's visits which are state visits even though she is also the head of the Church of England. Frankly, I think it's just hatred of Catholics that's their problem.
So because we haven't heard that the Dali Lama hasn't known about child abuse and covered it up, it doesn't exist? Don't they take children into monasteries? Child abuse/rape takes place by religious and atheists alike. It happens in every religion and by all kinds of religious leaders. If fascinating how many are willing to ignore this fact but focus on the Catholic Church as "evil" instead.

The Dalai Lama doesn't tell how to live their lives, then ignore "sin" in their own house. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard the Dalai Lama claim people were "evil" or not worthy to be in his presence. The pope on the other hand... along with the rest of the church.... has made it their top priority to tell others how to live... while their own house is in total disarray. The Pope is a hypocrite.

As an ex protestant and ex catholic I liked John Paul II better than this Pope, but since the papacy has always been about power and control, I would have to say Id welcome the Dalai Lama with open arms and just shun the pope.

No, of course not. Because he's a completely different person. And he generally promotes tolerance to others.
The pope's all ready managed to offend pretty much any one who isn't Catholic and he's only been here five minutes.
Plus it wouldn't cost the tax payers 12 million to have him over.
a) Yes but the Dalai Lama doesn't travel via armored pope mobile, therefore it would cost the tax payer a lot less. Multi millions less.
b) Secondly, I've never actually heard of any victims of Buddhists priests come forward about their abuse. Do you have a source to support your claim?
I thought it was hypocritical of him to come over here and preach about the 'dangers' of a secular nation considering the nature of the reports regarding the Catholic church recently. Up until that point I wasn't apposed to his visit.

No.
The Pope is the head of an institution that calls naughty children evil. Single mothers evil. Homosexuals evil. Anyone who does not believe evil. Anyone who wears a condom or takes the pill evil.
He is the head of an institution that has a long history of slavery, child abuse, child molestation and woman beating.
The Dalai Lama is not such a man.

I don't think the Dalai Lama covered up child abuse.

No, but the Dalai Lama is not the head of an organization which is responsible for the death of millions of people and the ignorance of many more than that.

the Dalai Lama wouldn't have done what the Pope (or his aides) have.
If he would have come in a peaceful manner seeking to commune with the British people, things would be ok. They choose not to do this.
The two situations are different. It isn't about the religion or who he is. It's about what they have said and done.

Did the Dalai Lama equate British atheists to Nazis? Understand that and you'll have an idea.

Is the Dalai Lama the head of an organisation which:
a) is responsible for tens of thousands of cases of child rape?
b) looks after convicted paedophiles and allows them to retain their titles?
c) discriminates against gay people, women and atheists?
d) spreads lies about condoms, exacerbating HIV and poverty?
e) has its own state which has refused to sign up for the same human rights legislation as the rest of Europe?
This man is here at *my* expense (as a taxpayer) and he has compared *me* to the Nazis and attacked the secular foundation of this country!
And you're surprised we don't like him?
