How can you get CuS with Cu and S?
In a lab, we heated Copper and Sulfur. After testing the solubility in ammonia, we found we had made Cu2S. A question on the lab asked how we might have made CuS instead. So I was wondering under what conditions would CuS form?
Note to current answer, what my question is is how to ensure that the simple Cu S8 mixture would result in CuS, not to use different reactants

CuSO4 (aq) + H2S (g) --> CuS (s) + H2SO4 (aq)
H2S gas reacts with copper sulphate solution to form a black precipitate of copper(mono) sulphide.
