Discrete Math, Sets Questions?

This is my homework Question:

Let A,B, and C be sets. Prove or disprove that A=B if and only if AuC = BuC and AnC = BnC.

Please show me how to prove this in details.

    It is true.

    Proving P iff Q involves two if-then proofs.

    Here P implies Q (A=B implies ...) is very easy. The other direction is harder, but I'd suggest proving its contrapositive:

    show A =/= B implies either AuC =/= BuC or AnC =/= BnC

    outline of proof:

    Assume A =/=B. Thus there must be an element x which is in one of A, B but not the other.

    From here there are 2 cases, depending on whether x is in C or x is not in C.
